Married 8 Aug 1944 *********************************** Mr. James A. "Jim" Nance, age 91, was born February 7, 1922, in Grand Saline, Van Zandt County, Texas to Charlie and Bettie (Staples) Nance. He entered into rest January 25, 2014, in San Augustine, Texas. Jim was a lifelong member of the Antioch Church of Christ and worked most of his life as a mechanic. His long time hobbies were restoring old tractors, working tirelessly on his family genealogy, and gardening. After selling his auto repair shop, he worked at the San Augustine Public Library helping others retrace their family roots. Jim served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II on the USS Joyce in the North Atlantic, and later in the South Pacific after Germany surrendered. He was a member of the VFW Post 9313 in San Augustine. He is survived by sons, Frank Nance and wife Joann of San Augustine, Kenneth Nance of San Augustine, John Nance and wife Phyllis of Jefferson; daughter, Wendy Looney of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. As well as his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Winnie Ponder Nance; brother, Edwin Ford Nance; son, Barry Charles Nance, and grandson Scotty Joe Nance.
