Karen Marilee Argotsinger, 71, of Smithville, Mo., died Aug. 30, 2013. Funeral services were at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home on Sept. 7. High Priest Raymond Powell and Elder Judy Anderson officiated. She was born on July 1, 1942 to Ernest H. and Mable M. (Peters)Boyer in Callaway, where she grew up and graduated from Callaway High School with the Class of 1961. Karen received her Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska. On June 22, 1963, she was united in marriage to James Ronald Argotsinger. After their marriage they lived in Lincoln, Neb; Glenwood, Indianola. Iowa, and Creston. Iowa, and Kirksville, Mo. In 1993 they moved to Smithville and ran the Smithville Pharmacy 1992-1998. Karen worked for Russell Stover's Candy in Lincoln, while she was going to school. In 1968 Karen and Jim purchased a pharmacy in Creston and later expanded the business to include a fabric store and other ventures. Karen loved sewing making several wedding dresses and many quilts. She was a quilting enthusiast and fabricaholic. Karen was a loving wife and mother and was very proud of all her grandchildren. She was a very kind, warm hearted, generous person who opened her home to all. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi in Creston and several quilting associations. Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, children, Carol (Adam) Rice. Rodney (Chandra) Argotsinger, Kenda Argotsinger, Melanie Johnson, and Den-Ny Hwang; grandchildren, Joshua and Alex, Meghan and Les, Michael. Tiffany, Emily, and Matthew; great-grandchildren,Desiree, Xearianna. and Daymien; brothers, Ernest (Erna) Boyer, and Stan (Diane) Boyer, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
