Bio

Gary Lee Garton, 75, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, January 12, 2014, at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, NE. Gary was born August 25, 1938, to Renzol Charles "Pete" and Muriel Vivian Bubolt Garton at Bridgeport, NE. He grew up in Bridgeport and Severance, CO. In 1956 at the age of 17, Gary joined the U.S. Navy and served until 1959. Following his discharge he moved to Cheyenne, WY and worked for Rieman and Worth Construction Company as a crane operator for 30 years. On April 8, 1956, Gary married Donna Mae Neeley at Pierce, CO. They lived in many different communities, but mainly Cheyenne. They also lived in Bridgeport for 15 years before moving to North Platte in 1993 where Gary worked for Giraffe Upholstery & Repair for 10 years. He had been a member of AA since 1987. Gary is survived by three sons, Ricky (Karen) Garton, of Salt Lake City, UT, Toby Garton, of Cheyenne and Todd (fiancee, Monica Black) Garton, of Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Bo, Ryan, Amber, Shayla, Luann and Zackery Garton; a brother, Lynn (RaNae) Garton, of Gering, NE; two nephews, Cody and Joshua Garton; his cousins and other family including his aunt, Bonnie Bacus, of North Platte; and his friends including Sandy and Floyd Young-Schmitt and Byron James, all of North Platte. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents, Pete and Muriel; and a brother, Kenneth Garton. A Celebration of Gary's Life will be 9 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore followed by a graveside funeral service at 1 p.m. (MT) in the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
