From Ord Quiz, Wednesday, Nov 15, 1939, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Jacob John, Early Ord Settler, Dies-- Jacob John, pioneer resident of Ord, and patient in St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island since Oct 1, passed away there Friday, the direct cause of his death being heart trouble. He went there suffering from appendicitis for which complaint he underwent an operation. This was complicated when he contracted pneumonia, which in turn affected his heart. He was born in Bohemia in 1869 and came to America, locating in the territory west of Ord in 1881. He was known as a successful farmer, a good neighbor and a kind an considerate husband and father. In 1929 he and Mrs. John retired from active work on the farm and moved to Ord where they have made their home since that time. Funeral services, with Pearson and Anderson in charge of arrangements, were held from the Bohemian hall Monday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. B. A. Filipi of Clarkson conducted the service. The pall bearers were Joe Suchanek, Mat Klima, Joe Beran, Frank Krikac, Otto Radil and Joe J. Waldmann. J. R. Stoltz, Mrs. E. O. Carlson, Mrs. Mark Tolen and Robert Noll sang, with Mrs. Noll at the piano. Mrs. John Haskell and Mrs. Mark Gyger had charge of the flowers. Burial was made in the Ord cemetery. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Rudolph, of Ord, two daughters, Mrs. Joe Veleba of North Loup and Mrs. Ed Waldmann of Ord; a sister, Mrs. Frank Kosmata of Central City; three brothers, Joe, residing in Oregon, John of Ord and James of Omaha and also six grandchildren.
