Bio

Marvin Richardson, age 93, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Amarillo, TX. Marvin was born on a farm near Seaton, TX on November 13, 1920. Marvin served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Marvin began his career in law enforcement. Marvin became a police officer for the Temple Police Department in 1948. Marvin moved to Amarillo, TX in 1952 and joined the Amarillo Police Department. Marvin was one of the first motorcycle officers in Amarillo. Marvin was made lieutenant on April 16, 1961. Marvin served as Range Master and was in personnel and training when The APD ran their own academy. Marvin retired on February 28, 1989. Marvin was very active in the community. Marvin was a member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #1330, A.E. Shirley #986 Order of the Eastern Star, the Amarillo Commandery, the Khiva Shrine Temple and was a DeMolay Dad. Marvin was also a long-time member of Buchannan Street United Methodist Church. Marvin married the love of his life, Doris Guenzel in 1949. Marvin was welcomed home to heaven by his wife, Doris, two sons, Jimmy and Jamie, as well as several other family members and friends. Marvin is survived by his son, Roy Gene Richardson and his wife, Huong of Yuma, AZ, two daughters, Bertha Jean Kinsinger and her husband, Arthur of Killeen, TX and Charlotte Jefcoat and her husband, George of Dacula, GA,brother, Buford Richardson of Fort Worth, TX, sister, Mary Smith of Little River-Academy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.on Wednesday at the funeral home. Suggest memorial donations, in lieu of flowers to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 6977 Main St. Houston, TX 77030.
