Bio

Albert William Kotrla, of Georgetown, entered into rest the morning of December 26, 2013, in Taylor. Born July 16, 1923, he was ninety years old at his passing. He was a lifelong resident of Williamson County. He married Dorothy Bowles on August 25, 1949. Together they raised their three daughters, farming land primarily in the Jonah-Circleville-Hutto area. The three main interests in Albert's life were his family, his church, and farming. In 1968, he and three brothers bought a large estate between Georgetown and Circleville and divided up the land between them for farming. This meant that Kotrla brothers farmed each for themselves but on largely contiguous land. Other farms came later and the land is now farmed by a second generation of Kotrlas, the sons and daughters of the four brothers who originally purchased the estate. Albert was dedicated to farming and liked nothing better once his crops were planted than to drive around the county looking at the other farms and fields of his fellow agrarians. It was a particular joy in his life to be able to assist and advise his nephews as they made their own careers in farming. Albert and Dorothy were members of the Granger Brethren Church in Granger, where he served as Church Treasurer and on the Board of Elders for over sixty years and on various committees responsible for conducting the affairs of the church. Together, he and Dorothy raised their family to support the church and its' ministry. Albert was preceded in death by his mother and father, Albina and Joe Kotrla; also by brothers, Joe, Frank, Oscar, August, and Edwin; by sisters, Hattie Machann, Minnie Chasak, and Frances McComb. Albert is survived by his wife, Dorothy; and by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Mickey McDaniel of Thorndale, Linda and Danny Vickers of Marlin, and Carolyn and Harry Taylor of Canyon. He is survived also by seven grandchildren, Michele Lafferty and husband, Quinn, of Thorndale, Terri Cervenka and husband, Jason, of Houston, Scott Vickers and wife, Anna, of Fort Worth, Lauren Wilson and husband, Joe, of Fort Worth, Allison Vickers and fiancé, Andrew Wolfe, of Salado, Bradley Taylor and wife, Elise, of Amarillo, and Jared Taylor and wife, Megan, of Midland. He is survived by five great-grandchildren, Makayla Lafferty, Carson Cervenka, Cameron Cervenka, Olivia Wilson, and Callan Taylor. He is also survived by one sister, Evelyn Bouska of San Angelo; and sisters-in-law, Mary Kotrla of Georgetown and Estelle Larson of Elgin. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will be held at the Granger Brethren Church on Sunday, December 29, at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at the Granger Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons Scott Vickers, Bradley Taylor, and Jared Taylor; and nephews Larry Kotrla, Eddie Kotrla, and Bobby Bohac. The family asks that memorials be made to the Granger Brethren Church.
