Emil P. Czarnick, 85, of Genoa, Nebraska, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Genoa Community Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 27 at 10:30 A.M. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Krakow, with Father Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Edward H. Larson, Post 114 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Krakow, with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Emil was born April 18, 1928, in Genoa, Nebraska, to Joe and Mary (Moritz) Czarnick. He attended District 39 school. Emil entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1953 - 1955. He then served in the reserves until 1961. On June 30, 1956, Emil was united in marriage to Dorothy K. Cerny in Silver Creek, Nebraska. They lived in Omaha where Emil worked at Duncan Heinz. They moved to the family farm near Krakow in the late 1950's. In addition to farming , he worked for the railroad and helped build the Air Force Tower near Silver Creek. Emil also helped with the construction of Platte College in Columbus, Nebraska, and worked for Grosch Irrigation. He was an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing pitch, listening to Polka Music, going to auctions, and collecting scrap iron. He was also a member of the American Legion in Genoa.
