Bio

From a 1906 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: Died, Tuesday October 23d, aged 67 year, Henry M. Smith, with pneumonia. Deceased had been sick for about eleven weeks, his illness starting from a sunstroke sustained in the late summer. He was an old soldier, belonging to Co. B, 54 Reg. The funeral occurs today, Rev. Pierce officiating. Obituary - Henry M. Smith was born at Louisburg, Union county, Pa., on Jan. 21, 1840. He enlisted in the Union army on the 22nd day of August 1862, in Co. E. 42 Pa. Served three years and was wounded while in the service. Leaves a wife and seven children. Was taken sick in July and died Oct. 23. The funeral was held the 25th, services conducted by Elder Pierce.
