Leona Roumph April 14, 1924 - April 14, 2018 Sparks, Nevada Leona Alpers Roumph went peacefully to her eternal home with the Lord on her 94th birthday, April 14, 2018. Leona was born in Grass Valley, CA to Randolph and Mercedes Alpers. As a young girl she went to live with her aunt and uncle, Ed and Sylvia LeDu. In 1944 Leona married Lester Roumph in Oakland California. They had two sons, Michael and Timothy. In 1955 they moved to Hayward California where Leona lived in the same house for 61 years. Lester passed on in 2003, after 59 years of marriage. They made many great friends while they lived in Hayward. The family would like to especially thank Bobbie Beilman Clarke, Gary Beilman, Nikki Netter, and Rosie Torres who were wonderful friends and cared for Leona in Hayward. Leona worked as a cafeteria manager for the HUSD for 20 years. She then volunteered at Kaiser Hospital for 35 years. Everyone who entered the hospital was greeted by her happy, caring smile. She and Lester had season tickets to the Oakland Raiders, and volunteered for many years with the Oakland A's. They loved to travel and went all over the world. In 2016, Leona began a new phase in her life. She moved to Morning Star Senior Center in Sparks, NV. In her time there she made great new friends. Leona had a great love of life. She enjoyed sitting on her balcony and watching the birds at play, and was happiest sitting in her son's backyard playing with her grand-dog, Sunny. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt and uncle, brother Dalbert, sister Donna, brother Eddie, and her loving husband Lester. She is survived by son Michael of Oakland, son Timothy and daughter-in-law Karen of Sparks, NV, grandson Tony Roumph and great-grandson, Timothy Roumph who were the lights of her life, two half sisters, Juanita, and Totsie, and many nieces, nephews and great friends. Everyone who knew Leona loved her. Leona's family wishes to sincerely thank the staffs of Morning Star, Kindred Hospice, and Amada Senior Care for taking such wonderful care of Leona in her final days. There will be a celebration of life at the Neighborhood Church in Castro Valley CA at a later date. Leona will be interred with Lester in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the NV Humane Society in Reno, NV or Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Walnut Creek, CA. Published in East Bay Times on Apr. 20, 2018.
