Graveside services for Cordie Potts, 84, Rhea, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. (CST) Wednesday at Friona Cemetery. The Revs. Joe Hub Collier and Leon Talley will officiate. Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona is handling arrangements. Mr. Potts died Monday, Jan. 29, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1911, in Hollene. He married Helen Schlenker on May 29, 1938, in Rhea. He was a lifetime resident of the Rhea/Hollene area, where he was a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Friona. He was Friona's man of the year in 1992. He served on the school board at Rhea and then at Friona when the schools consolidated. He served on the board of of Parmer County water districts, Parmer County Community Hospital, Friona Consumers and the Tax Equalization Board. Survivors include his wife, Helen Potts, Friona; two sons, Larry Potts and Jay Potts, both of Rhea; one daughter, Marilyn Ridley, Clovis; one brother, Claudie Potts, Lubbock; three sisters, Viola Beamon, Canyon City, Calif., Violet Davis, Tucson, Ariz., and Vida Palmer, Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to Rhea-Hollene Activity Center, care of Cecelia Schueler. Published in the Clovis News Journal, Tuesday, January 30, 1996.
