Bio

Mrs. Janelle Ann Ballard, 79, nee Klanika, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at her home. She was comforted and cared for in her final days by her loving husband, Ronald. Mrs. Ballard was born February 25, 1934, in Orange Grove, Texas. She was one of six children born to Henry Klanika and Bessie Bartos Klanika. Janelle married Ronald Clay Ballard in 1975 and together they raised his son from a previous marriage as they made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Janelle was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the Moravian Hall, the Czech Heritage Society, and the KJZT for many years. She worked for decades as a hair stylist in several Corpus Christi salons. In addition to both her parents, Janelle Ballard was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Knapek Jr.; a sister and her husband, June and Jake Snapka; sister, Eileen Klanika; and a brother-in-law, Wally Butler. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Ballard of Corpus Christi, Texas; stepson, Howard and his wife, Lisa Ballard of Fredericksburg, Texas; two grandchildren, Hunter Casbeer of Flint, Michigan, and Hannah Ballard of Austin, Texas; two brothers and their wives, Alton and Mary Ann Klanika, Raymond and Dorothy Klanika, both families from Taft, Texas; a sister, Geri Butler of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Malvina and Jim Slovak of Victoria, Texas, Joyce McCumber of Kemah, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In her final months of life Janelle was assisted with great care by Karen Kincaid and Evelyn Garcia of Harbor Hospice. Her family expresses tremendous gratitude for their help. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park
