Bio

Oil City Derrick, June 29, 2009: James Walter Mealy , 75, of Leeper, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Snyder Memorial Healthcare in Marienville. Born April 3, 1934, in Tionesta, he was the son of William and Gertrude Bigley Mealy. Mr. Mealy enjoyed being in the woods and cutting firewood, fishing, watching the animals that visited his backyard and spending time with his family. He was married May 2, 1952, to the former Edna Lucille Reese, who survives. Survivors also include seven children, Walter W. Mealy and his wife, Sylvia, of Scotch Hill, James L. Mealy and his wife, Connie, of Tionesta RD, Charles E. Mealy of Tionesta RD, John T. Mealy of Scotch Hill, Marien L. Wolbert and her husband, Joseph, of Lucinda, Glenn A. Mealy and his fiancee, Kathy Foster, of Shippenville, and Franklin E. Mealy of Scotch Hill. He is also survived a stepbrother, George McWilliams of Centerville; and two stepsisters, Viola McWilliams of Titusville and Gloria Black of Florida. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Walter E. Mealy II, Teresa A. Wolbert-McBride, Joseph R. Wolbert, Michael Mealy, Charles Mealy II and Elizabeth Gurithand; two step-grandchildren, Cody Haglock and Isaac Haglock; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Mealy, Zachery Wolbert and Loraine McBride; and two step-great-grandchildren, Carmen Haglock and Kayra Rea Lynn Haglock. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mealy was preceded in death by two sisters, Marien Kagle and Kate Robertson; a stepsister, Ethel McWilliams; a stepbrother, Wayne McWilliams; and a grandson, Bernard Mealy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Borland Funeral Home Inc. in Leeper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Hurst, pastor of Tylersburg Charge United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment will follow in Scotch Hill Cemetery.
