Bio

Daniel Emil Richter, of Sunrise Beach, Texas, formerly of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 11, 2013 in Austin, Texas from complications associated with cancer. He was 78 years old. Daniel was born on July 4, 1935 in Georgetown, Texas to Erna Ida Vogler Richter and Henry Christian Richter and was the youngest of 5 siblings. He was baptized July 21, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed also at Zion Lutheran Churh on April 2, 1950. His confirmation verse was Matthew 26:41. He also attended Zion Lutheran School. Daniel married Mamie Ruth Wolbrueck at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg, Texas on June 16, 1957. They were blessed with their daughter Kimberly in 1962 and they celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage in 2007 with a family cruise in Hawaii. Dan and Mamie Ruth enjoyed many travel opportunities together, including trips to Australia and Germany, as well as many road trips in the United States and cruises with friends. Daniel served in the Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana and was a sharpshooter, even guarding Elvis Presley's tent! He was proud of his opportunity to serve his country in the Army and also in the National Guard. Dan was a service member for General Motors, Ford and Chevrolet. He was voted Man of the Year for the City of Georgetown in 1977. He was very involved with various churches, including St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg, Texas and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Marble Falls, Texas as an active member and member of church council. Daniel was also an active member of the Williamson County Sheriff's Posse and Drill Team. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Georgetown Fire Department. Dan retired from Johnson Ford and continued to stay active. He was a skilled woodworker who loved watching Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and hunting. He enjoyed fishing, especially at his lake house on Lake LBJ, at Sunrise Beach, Texas. Daniel, or "Papo", as he was known to his grandchildren, liked to host fish fries to show off his big catches! He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing a large garden on his farm in Weir, Texas. Daniel is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mamie Ruth Wolbrueck; daughter, Kimberly Richter Keller and husband Michael of Georgetown, Texas; granddaughter, Ashley Keller Bergeron and husband Jeffery of Victoria, Texas; grandson, Aden Keller of Georgetown, Texas; and his beloved dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erna Ida Vogler Richter and Henry Christian Richter; siblings: Gus, Ben, Elizabeth and an infant sister.
