John Joe Hruska was born June 8, 1916 near Red Ranger, Texas. He was the fourth child of Stephen and Anna Hruska. He was born on the Hruska farm where he lived his entire life with the exception of his military service during WWII. He received his education at Red Ranger Elementary. He was not able to continue his education past the 8th grade because he was needed to work on the farm. John met Vlasta in 1940. In 1941 he volunteered for military service in the Army Air Force, serving 4 years. During his service he was a member of the Army Air Force Band. He was decorated with the following medals: The American Defense Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. John was patriotic, community minded and was very proud of his Czech heritage. John and Vlasta were married on January 8, 1944 at the home of Rev. Frank J. Kostohryz in Temple. They were married 55 years last January 8. During John's tenure in the service, they lived in Tallahassee, Fl and Stuttgart, AR. After his discharge they returned to live in the Red Ranger community for the remainder of their lives. John was active in all of the activities of the Seaton Brethren Church and Sunday School. For many years, he was a member of the choir and an officer in the Men's Brotherhood. He, with Vlasta, made countless visits to the home of church member and friends in need in the community. He was an active member of Seaton SPJST Lodge 47. John was a farmer most of his life and a carpenter for 25 years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening with his wife. They supplied many families with fresh vegetables through the years. In the 1930's he was a musician with the Divis Orchestra. He had a life long love of music. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephan and Anna Hruska, his sisters Andulka Hruska, Ella Janicek, and Annie Divis Jacubec, his brothers Steve and Jerry Hruska. He is survived by his wife Vlasta; his daughter Janette Hruska Couch and her husband John M. Couch of Boerne, TX; his grandson John Jacob Couch; his sister, Vlasta Hruska Divis of Crane, TX; several nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt, Clara Macek age 94 and many other relatives and friends.
