US MARINE CORPS PFC World War II Otis was the son of Frank and Emma Luksa Kovar. He was born in Rossville, Kansas, and came to Texas in 1923. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1942, attended Texas A&M, and then joined the U.S. Marines for three years. He participated in the consolidation of the northern Solomans, the Treasury Boughainville Operation, and the Bismarck Archipelago Operation during World War II. He stopped at Boughainville, New Hebrides, Guadalcanal, Russell Island, and Emirou before returning home and discharging on November 3, 1945. On December 29, 1945, he married Gladys Ray Matejka, daughter of Frank and Julie Sodek Matejka of Edge. Otis farmed near Rogers until his death, while Gladys worked as a beautician for many years, and was also an employee at Temple Metal and Iron Works.
