Son of - Joannes Siemek (born 1833 Szynwald, Poland) & Apolonia (Antosz) Siemek (born 1837 Szynwald, Poland). John and Apolonia were married 7 Nov 1860 at Szynwald. Note: There is some discrepancy on his birth date. Further research needed. (From obit: March 6, 1858) Marrriage record from Platte County, Nebraska SHEMEK, Peter & BINDA (Bandur) Jonka (Antonina0 2 May 1893 St. Stanislaus Church Duncan, Nebraska Peter, age 27, residing Platte County; born Austria; son of John and Polonka (Apolonia) Jonka, age 18, residing Platte County; born Austria, daughter of George (Bandur) and not given (but is Maryana Kula) Some family members spelled the last name as SHEMEK. ---------- Peter had cousins in the Platte County area, children of his uncle (Ignatius Siemek whose wife was Marianna Plebanek Siemek # 10653655) Peter had a sister, Marianna Siemek born 1870 in Poland. Do not have further info on her as to whether she immigrated or not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Telegram (Columbus, Nebraska) Monday, 5 Aug 1946, Page 3 Peter Shemek, 88, Duncan pioneer, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at his home one mile east of Duncan. He was in poor health the last three years and on April 3 of this year his condition became serious. He was bedfast the last two weeks. Born in Tarnov, Poland on March 6, 1858, he came to the United States at the age of 22 and for two years following his arrival, worked in the coal mines in Wyoming. He then came to Platte county to reside until his death. He married Antonia Bandur who preceeded him in death. Also preceeding him in death were two daughters. He is survived by two son, John of Omaha and Lonny at home; five daughters, Mrs. John Bugay of Fullerton, Mrs. Adam Vetick of Silver Creek, Mrs. Barbara Barr of Omaha, Miss Lena Shemek of Columbus, and Miss Helen Shemek at home; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ven. Sister Antonia of St. Mary's hospital, Columbus, and Miss Mary Bandur of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Duncan with Rev. Father Mikulski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body will be taken to the family home from the Gahan funeral home at 3 p.m. Tuesday, to be until the hour of the service. Friends of the family will pray the rosary at the family home at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
