Funeral services were held November 30, 1998 at 10:30 am at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Burial was in the Ord Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the Ord VFW and American Legion. John Joseph Vampola was born January 5, 1929 at Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska to John Wenceslaus Vampola and Anna Josephine (Stock) Vampola. He was raised in Omaha, where he also attended school. He served in the United States Navy and Army. While residing in Omaha he operated a body ship and a gas station and also worked for the Omaha Fire Department as a civilian maintenance man. He then was a truck driver, stationed out of Denver, Scottsbluff and Ord. He owned and operated a tavern in Ord, Valley County, Nebraksa. For the last four years he had lived in the Davis Creek area of Howard County. He was a pilot and he enjoyed flying, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Scotia; one son; three daughters; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
