William "Bill" Gladson, 77, of Grand Island, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nebraska Veterans Home. Chaplain Bill Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the Nebraska Veterans Home. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gladson was born on March 5, 1928 at Walworth (Sargent) to William and Laura (Sheldon) Gladson. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Barbara of Grand Island; one son, Harold Gladson of Central City; two sisters, Virginia of Lincoln and Juanita of New Hampshire; and one brother, Don Gladson of Minnesota. Also surviving is a grandson, Dakota. Bill graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln. After High School he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on March 21, 1946. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 30, 1947. He then worked as a truck driver for a few years. He was united in marriage to Barbara Gifford on June 26, 1966 at Endicott. The couple lived in Endicott, where Bill worked as a Brick Maker. After his retirement, they moved to Fairbury before coming to Grand Island in 1998. Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling, and did some carpentry work throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Florence Barnhill. Contributor: Ben (48239119)
