Bio

Our loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend, Larry Lincoln Hanks, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012. He was born on April 10, 1943, the son of Lincoln Hanks and Duella Opal Stevens in Tacoma, Washington. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1961. He served in the Toronto, Canada mission. Following his mission, he attended and graduated from Dixie College and then attended and graduated from Brigham Young University. Upon graduation from BYU he went to the Vietnam War, serving in the Army and later in the Air National Guard. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Robbins, his college sweetheart, on September 1, 1967, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in three bishoprics and as bishop of the Eccles Park Ward, Ogden UT. Serving faithfully in many church callings, he loved to share the gospel message and loved our Savior. He enjoyed working with children, teaching them how to use tools and how to build. Today, those children, now adults, remember what he taught. He loved to go to his fifteen acre ranch near Park Valley, UT; helping his desert bloom as a rose; with trees, the bunk-house, shop, and green fields. With all he did, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and wife He served in the community in Republican politics, as PTA president, and other endeavors. He also learned many different kinds of careers to take care of his family and retired in 1998 from HAFB as an accountant Larry is survived by his loving wife and companion of 45 Years, Kathy; children, Melinda (Kenneth) Jensen, Robert (Stephanie), Cynthia, Thomas (Becca), David (Suzanne); Kari (Richy) Holliday; 25 Grandchildren; step- father, John K. Jakeman; brothers, Glenn (Colleen) Jakeman, Kenneth (Janice) Jakeman; sisters, Gloria (Joe) Galloway, Vickie, Dianna, Denise and Karen. He was preceded in death by his son John, parents Lincoln Hanks and Duella Opal Jakeman, and brother, Gregory Reed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11 am. Friends may visit with family on Friday evening from 6-8 pm and Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the Eccles Park Ward building, 1029 26th.
