Rev. Callaway was a 3rd great-grandson of American Immingrant Peter Callaway. Biography Info found on genealogytrails.com CALLAWAY, PITT MILNER Pitt Milner Callaway, Baptist minister, was born October 10, 1812, in Wilkes County, Ga., and died November 29, 1898, in Newton, Dale County, Ala.; son of Elder Joshua S. Callaway, a missionary Baptist minister, born May 30, 1789, in Wilkes County, Ga. In early life the son enlisted at Columbus, Ga., in answer to a call for volunteers to defend the country from the Indians and during his last years received a pension. In 1838 he removed to Macon County, Ala., and a few years later to Eufaula, Barbour County, where he engaged in mercantile business and also studied law, but after his admission to the bar only practiced to a limited extent. In 1834 he was converted and ten years later, while on a visit to Georgia, united with the church of which his father was pastor; was ordained a deacon at Eufaula, and subsequently entered the ministry, being ordained at Mount Zion church in Macon County in 1857. From that date his life was devoted to church work and as a preacher he had few equals in southern Alabama. He represented Dale County in the state legislature in 1882-3 and was a strong advocate of prohibition and education. From Barbour County he removed to Bullock County; and in 1863 to Dale County, making his home in Newton for the last thirty-five years of his life. Married (1) December 10, 1833, to Ellen Wiley Jordon; and (2) February 16, 1880, to Mrs. Mary V. McLaney. He left several children. Last residence: Newton, Ala.
