Centenarian, Libia Mae (Nemec) Hambek, daughter of Joseph and Marie (Sedlacek) Nemec, was born July 27, 1912, at Spencer, Nebraska. Libia died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Alpine Village, Verdigre, Nebraska. Libia attended rural school near the family home in Boyd County, Nebraska. On August 25, 1936, she was married to William Anton Hambek at Butte, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Betty and Rita. Libia and Bill raised their family in the Spencer, Nebraska area, where Libia was a housewife and also worked as a long-time kitchen aide at the Spencer (NE.) School. Libia attended the Wesleyan Church in Spencer for many years. She was a very dedicated wife and mother, and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Libia is survived by: daughters, Betty (husband Cecil) Mashino of Spencer, Nebraska and Rita Goeken of Spencer, Nebraska; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Stringfellow of Spencer and a host of family and friends. Libia was preceded in death by: husband, William Anton "Bill" Hambek; parents, Joe and Mary Nemec; brother, Albert Nemec; sister-in-law, Rose Whetham; twin sister and husband, Lydia and Martin Jehorek; and son-in-law, Max Goeken. Burial was in the National Cemetery, Spencer, Nebraska.
