Adolph J. Nemec, age 90, of Prague, NE died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City, NE. He was born January 27, 1923 on his farm four miles north of Prague, Nebraska to Vaclav and Marie(Hobza)Nemec. He attended St. John's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Prague Public High School. He married Gladys Novak on September 8, 1953 at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, NE. He farmed with his father, Vaclav. Adolph served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended UNL College of Agriculture and received an Associate Degree in general agriculture. He played tenor saxophone for various bands and started his own band, the Adolph Nemetz Orchestra, and led it for 34 years. He worked for the USDA for 50 years from 1963 in the research service division, serving as district supervisor for Southeast Nebraska 17 county district. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill; an installed lector and acolyte; CCD teacher, member of: Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Aquinas Council #3736, served as Grand Knight and was also a 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of the Catholic Workman/FCSLA branch #55 and State President of Catholic Workman for 16 years. Adolph belonged to the Prague American Legion Post #254. He was executive officer for the Bishop Neumann band boosters for several years. He was founder of Prague Czech Brass Band and the Nebraska Czechs of Prague, member of the Lincoln Musicians Union and past president of District #51 School Board for many years. He was inducted into the Polka Hall of Fame. He received the Pioneer Farm Family Award in 1986. Adolph farmed and was the owner of the Kolach Korner in Prague. Survived by wife, Gladys of 60 years, children: Deborah (Steven) Steager of Fremont, Monsignor Joseph Nemec of Lincoln, Cynthia (Timothy) Werner of Lincoln, Constance (Mark) Rosno Sioux City, IA, Jim (Lynn) Nemec of Morse Bluff, Virginia (Daryl) Braunsroth of Wahoo, Mark Nemec of Prague, Laura (Todd) Minchow of Lincoln, Kristina (Kevin) Fitzpatrick of Lincoln; thirty grandchildren, two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Cyril, sisters Agnes Sypal and Cecilia Sypal and infant Marie. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM, Friday, September 27th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill, near Morse Bluff, NE. Msgr. Joseph J. Nemec and Father Jeremy Hazuka will officiate. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 4:30 PM, Thursday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM on Thursday at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 PM to 4:30 PM at the funeral home and from 6 PM to 8 PM at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery near Morse Bluff. Military graveside services will be conducted. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 30th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Lincoln. Memorials can be designated to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cedar Hill or Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Lincoln or to the family. (mosermemorialchapels.com/obituary)
