Mary Lou Schott died peacefully on January 28, 2013 at the age of 74, at the Colorado home of her daughter, Cynthia Sharp, surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. She fought a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 am followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 am on Friday February 15, 2013 at St. Steven's Catholic Church, 24827 S. Dobson Road, Sun Lakes, Arizona with Father Pierre as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Osceola Cemetery in Osceola, Nebraska on Saturday March 30, 2013 at 11:00 am with Father Bartek. Mary Lou was born October 14, 1938 in Brainard, Nebraska to Method and Agnes (Helman) Swanda. She married A.C. Schott in 1956 and settled in Osceola, Nebraska where they raised their four daughters and one son on a cattle farm. In 1984, A.C., Mary Lou and son, Danny moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona due to health reasons. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, A.C.; her parents, Method and Agnes Swanda; brothers Ken Swanda and Donald Swanda; and sister, LaVerne Meister. Mary Lou was a devoted wife and mother and tended to many activities. Living in Osceola, NE, she helped her husband on the cattle farm while raising their 5 children and also worked as a physical therapy aide. Upon moving to Arizona, Mary Lou ventured into landscaping. She was very proud of the Sun Lakes and Ocotillo Golf Course grounds where she spent many hours planting and tending to flowers. The flowers were so colorful and full of energy due to her tender loving care. After retiring from landscaping, Mary Lou worked at Target for a few years before retiring. Over the years, she enjoyed watching golf, baseball and NASCAR racing. She spent many hours on the golf courses watching her son, Danny play golf along with playing golf herself. She was a true "Diamondbacks" baseball fan and always looked forward to the tacos when they would make 6 runs in a game. Mary Lou also enjoyed playing bingo, dominos, Mah Jongg, and cards of all kind. She was a "Go-Getter" and never stood still. We will miss her "Energy" and the "LOVE" she had for everybody.
