Bio

Marie, who was 98, passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 10, 2013. She was born May 15, 1915 in OKC to Ollie Marx & Goldie Russell (Coleman) Herron. Marie/ Big Granny dearly loved and cherished her family and friends and lived her life to the fullest. She always embraced people & situations with a positive outlook and tried to find the best in everything. With a God-given gift for song & music, Marie started each day singing "This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!" She dedicated her life to providing a warm & loving home and caring for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Yahtzee, bird watching, yodeling and sharing stories about life with her grandchildren, family and friends! We will treasure those stories she shared for a lifetime. She was a beloved mother & grandmother who will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, Erma Hammitt, Emogene Davis, and Twyla Lowell-Lay. Marie is survived by her daughter Nancy and Jim Vicars of MWC; son Bruce and Sue Bass of Millington, TN; step-son Ron and Maggie Shepherd; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation is from 5-7pm Friday at Vondel Smith Mortuary, S. Western. Services to celebrate her life are 11 AM Sat. Sept. 14, 2013 at the South Colonial Chapel.
