OBITUARY- Casper Francis "Cap" Winkels, 97, of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1906, in Johnsburg, the fourth of six children, to Frank and Emma (Braun) Winkels. On July 2, 1931, he married Blanche Belshan. She died July 6, 1969. On Oct. 23, 1970, he married Hazel Wilmot. She died July 3, 1996. Cap was a retired employee of Hormel Foods, 41 years, devoted Twins fan, dejected Vikings fan, who loved fishing and summers at Crane Lake with family and friends. He was a proud Navy veteran, 57-year American Legion member and the third person to join the union at Hormel in 1933. Survivors include sons, Peter Winkels, Rose Creek; Alan (Kay) Wilmot, Owatonna; daughter, Sandra (Gordon) Unverzagt, Dexter; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wives; brothers, Tony and John; sisters, Theresa, Mary and Martha. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2003, with a 6 p.m. wake service and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Interment: Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.
