Wilson Howard Bergstreser was born near Wentworth, South Dakota, son of Frederick and Esther Bergsresser. In 1903, he went to Butler, South Dakota and worked in a meat market. In 1904, he came to Willow Lake to help his Uncle Jake Bergstreser to operate an elevator. Wilson Bergstreser and Katherine Gavin were married in the new St. James Church in Willow Lake on January 10, 1906. In 1910, Wilson and Katherine moved to Faith and proved their homestead claim living in a sod shanty. The drought caused them to sell the claim and move to Bancroft in 1914. In Bancroft Wilson operated a meat market. In 1918 they moved back to Willow Lake and he clerked in the C.A. Smith store. In 1931 Wilson Bergstreser with his son George and Ralph Dirksen started a dray line and hauled water. February 21, 1933, Wilson dies of his injuries when he was crushed by frozen earth from a cave in at the gravel pit two miles west of town. Wilson Bergstreser leaves behind his widow and five children, three daughters Mrs. Ralph (Caroline) Dirksen, Nellie and Bertha Bergstreser, two sons George and James Bergstreser.
