Bio

Billie June Rubes, 77 years old was born October 2, 1935 in Prague, Oklahoma to William F. and Mary B. (Bouda) Bartodej. She went to sleep in Christ, August 23, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Billie grew up in Prague, Oklahoma and graduated from Prague High School in 1953, and played clarinet in the High School marching band. She grew up with a very strong Czech heritage and attended many dances at the Bohemian Hall in Prague and the Czech Hall in Yukon. She attended Central State College, in Edmond where she was affiliated with Delta Zeta sorority (one of the first members of Epsilon Upsilon chapter that began in 1956), received Alumni scholarships, was on the Distinguished Student list and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Business Communications. She first worked for Nichols Seed & Fertilizer Company in Oklahoma City. Later, for nine years she was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration at Will Rogers Airport as a key punch operator on the very first computers. Billie was a member of St John Nepomuk Catholic Church and was involved with the Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, raising her family, and was an excellent cook. She won numerous contests for best lawn and best outdoor Christmas displays. Billie was an avid Czech genealogist researching in libraries, cemeteries and via the mail, long before the digital age we live in today. She also enjoyed attending many Czech festivals and dances with her family along with listening to her favorite Czech Music. She was also honored that she raised not one, but two daughters who went on to become the Czech Queen of Oklahoma. Billie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Don Rubes of the home; daughters, Kelly Zrubek and husband Darwin of Granger, Texas; Sidney Rubes-Adams and husband Ed of Yukon, and Carla Miller and husband Eric of Yukon; son, James Rubes of Yukon; and grandchildren, Lynley Wagner and Chas Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Agnes "Aggie" Rubes; sister, Daisie Graham; and daughter-in-law, Christy Rubes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Yukon Cemetery.
