Bio

Kenneth James Rother, 66, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, in Alamogordo, NM, following a short battle with cancer. He and his wife were staying in Cloudcroft, NM, for the summer enjoying the cooler weather. Kenneth was born on September 4, 1946, to Herman and Angelina Rother in Rabb Switch, on the family farm near Hallettsville. As a child, Kenneth worked many odd jobs and was in business for himself by the age of 18. Kenneth married Connie Sue Cooper in 1965. They were blessed with 3 children, Sharon, Clyde, and Darrell. They were married for 23 years. Kenneth operated service station and 24 hour roadside services in Hallettsville and in Gonzales for years. He branched out into auto repair and sales. Kenneth was well respected used auto dealer, selling both retail and wholesale. He started many family members in the car business. Kenneth son Clyde, learned the business from his dad and was in business for himself by the age 18. Clyde learned for the business. Kenneth met Janet Duncan in 1988. They were married in Las Vegas on May 12, 1994, after being together for 6 years. They had many adventures doing automotive wholesale auctions all over the United States. They settle down in La Grange, TX in 1997, to build their dream house and open a retail automotive lot called "Heights Sales". Kenneth retired in 2002, after being in the automotive business for 45 years. After retiring, he and Janet hit the road in a lovely motor home to see the United States. Kenneth loved to play Black Jack, and they visited many casinos all over the United States. He enjoyed going on cruises and they went on many. Kenneth never met a stranger. Kenneth loved visiting with everyone he met across the United States, his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kenneth was blessed with a large loving family and many loyal friends. He kept in touch with everyone on his journeys, and was always only a phone call away. He was the "problem solver", for many in the family and gave good advice. His sudden death has been a total shock to so many. Kenneth is survived by: his wife Janet; sons, Clyde Rother & partner Nancy Luna of New Berlin, TX, and Darrell Rother & wife Girley of East Moline, Illinois; daughter Sharon Swanson & husband Harold of Decatur, Nebraska; step son Brennon Duncan of La Vernia, TX; his mother Angelina Rother of Hallettsville, TX; brother Marvin Rother & wife Sharon of Hallettsville; sisters, Dorothy Wilson & partner Jimmie Berkenhoff of Hallettsville, Charlene Koncaba & husband Charles of Hallettsville, and Pasty Pavliska & husband Gary of Cuero, TX; 8 grandchildren; one step granddaughter; 2 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
