Carson Cannon "Carson" Clevenger was born in 1846 in Cocke County, son of Allen Clevenger and Susan Hightower. He married Mariah Wood, daughter of William Wood and Mary Gillette. They raised their family in the upper Edwina (Sweetwater) Community. Their children were Lora Etta, Minnie Leota, William Carson and Robert Lee. Carson died at age 36. Mariah never remarried. She lived with son Robert after Carson's death. She died at age 78. Lora Etta married William Van Faubion in Cocke County. They lived in Blount County before moving to California. (A family data sheet is posted online ). Minnie married Nathan Driskill in Cocke County. They moved to Oklahoma. William lived with his sister Minnie and brother-in-law Nathan Driskill in Oklahoma before marrying Belle Hale, a Cocke County native. They were living in Texas when William died in an auto accident at age 46. Robert married Betsy Mantooth , who, at age 17, escaped the wrath of her father who killed her mother and 5 siblings with an ax, before cutting his own throat. (The story is posted online .)
