Bio

HAYS, Kan. -- Lod Emil Polivka, 84, died Monday (Aug. 15, 2005) at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan. He was born Feb. 21, 1921, to John and Frances (Kubicek) Polivka in Brainard. He attended school in Brainard. He married Marie Agnes Spicka on Feb. 27, 1944, in Lincoln. He owned a tavern in Rulo before moving to Lakewood, Colo., where he owned a service station and a catering business. He and his wife moved to McDonald, Kan., in 1996. He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Lakewood, Colo., and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood. He was a former member of St. John's Catholic Church in Weston and Rulo. He was preceded in death by numerous siblings; his wife, Marie Agnes Polivka on March 12, 1997; and two infant children, Bobby in 1947 and Gail in 1950. Survivors include two sons, Donald Leroy and wife, Rhonda of San Diego, Calif., and Billy Dean and wife, Carolyn of Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Bonnie K. Wyly and husband, Bill of McDonald, Kan.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. A funeral liturgy service will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. John's Cemetery in rural Atwood. Visitation is today, until 9 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home of Atwood. Memorials are being accepted in his name at the McDonald Senior Center and the funeral home. Williams Funeral Home of Atwood is in charge of arrangements.
