Bio

SAN ANGELO — Sadie Mikeska, 90, of San Angelo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at the Baptist Memorials Center. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Wall Brethren Church in Wall, Texas, with the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Sadie was born March 5, 1915, in Rowena, Texas, to the late John and Mary Rafaj Simecek. She attended Sweet Home School, that was located on their family farm in Lowake, and Ballinger High School. Sadie never finished school because she had to help on the farm and took care of her younger sisters and brothers at home. Sadie met Robert Mikeska while she attended Hus School in Temple, Texas, in the summer of 1935. She married Robert on Dec. 31, 1939, in West, Texas. Sadie and Robert lived in the Lowake area from 1940 until January 1945. In 1945, they made their new home in San Angelo, where they raised cotton, milo and cattle. She was a member of the Wall Brethren Church, the Wall Christian Sisters and the R.V.O.S. Through her love and passion of the Sweet Home School she began working hands on securing funds for a historical marker to be placed on the site where the school once stood. She was very proud of that. She enjoyed having her grandchildren come to see her and Grandpa. She always had plenty of candy, pop, ice cream and Coke floats waiting for their visits. She also enjoyed treating her great-grandchildren with the same special treats. Sadie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert Mikeska; a sister, Martha Simecek; and two brothers, Marvin and Alvin Simecek. Survivors include her two daughters, Dorothy Brenek and husband Jimmie, and Ruth Mikeska, all of Vancourt; three sisters, Adaline Holliday of San Angelo, Esther Simecek of Ballinger and Sible Simmons and husband Hal of Tulia; four grandchildren Annette Russell and husband Jeff of Belton, Allen Brenek of Wall, Janet Molder and husband Rick of San Angelo, and Jean DeMilo and husband Gary; three great-granddaughters, Ashley and Morgan Russell of Belton and Jacelyne Kort of Vancourt; five great-grandsons, Justin Russell of Belton, Tyler and Mason Molder of San Angelo, Ricky Molder of Austin, and Nicholas Molder and wife Jamie of Carlsbad, Calif.; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Baptist Memorials Center Unit 2 for caring for Sadie through the years, and to Victoria for reading to Sadie. Many thanks go to Dr. Zeitler, Alana Montgomery, and Dr. Escobar. A special thank you to the Baptist Hospice staff Mary Carnes, Reese Alter and the rest of the staff for their special care of her. We would also like to thank her special friend and roommate of two years, Fay, for always watching over her. Sadie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made to the Wall Brethren Church, Hospice or a charity of their choice. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Johnson's Funeral Home Published by the San Angelo Standard Times, September 27, 2005
