Bio

Graveside services for J.I. Speer, 79, of Lubbock will held 10 a.m. Saturday at Idalou Cemetery with the Rev. Kim E. Clowe, of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Idalou Cemetery under direction of Sanders Funeral Home. He died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born on May 1, 1920, in Russellville, Ark., and moved to Texas in 1928. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He farmed in the New Deal area for many years before retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Ann of Lubbock; a son, Joe of Spring; a brother, Brooks of Idalou; a sister, Mary Pryor of Friona; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
