Herbert B. Nichols, passed away on May 23, 1999 in Murray, Utah, of congestive heart failure. Born December 27, 1922, Draper, Utah, to Mary Florence Brown and Charles Henry Nichols. He graduated from Jordan High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World WarII and Married Arlene Cottrell on March 3, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. He owned and operated his own cabinet business in Draper, Utah. He joined the Salt Lake County Fire Department on May 1, 1953 and continued his service for 24 years until his retirement as a Battalion Chief on December 31, 1977. At that time he went to work for Career Research until 1990. As an avid sportsman he loved hunting and fishing. Church work and service to others was where he always enjoyed being. Numbered among his church callings he served as a stake missionary, high councilman for 12 years, bishop's counselor, Dominguez Branch president for five years and High Priest Group leader. Survived by his wife; daughter and sons, Francene (Ken) Spencer, Salt Lake, Chad, Fortuna, CA, and Dwight (Bobbi Jo) Nichols, Salt Lake, Nephew Henry Ashby (Colleen), St. Anthony, ID, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, five brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 12:00 noon at the Millcreek 8th Ward, 4600 South 600 East. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street and Wednesday at the church from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
