He was raised on the family farm south of Ord where he attended District #77 Country School and graduated from Ord High School in 1956. Following high school Eldon worked for Cox and Horner Irrigation and Well Drilling. On April 22, 1961, Eldon was united in marriage to Janet Bogus at Paplin, NE. To this union three children were born, Janice, Christine and James. Eldon and Janet first lived three miles southwest of Ord. Eldon and Janet finished raising Janet's younger brother, Gary and sister, Sharon, when her parents were killed in an accident. In 1970, they moved to the home place, seven miles southwest of Ord. Eldon loved farming and raised all farm crops, cattle, hogs "Rutabakers", sheep, chicken, turkey and geese. He also enjoyed a large garden. Eldon was a hard worker and loved to work. He taught his children to have a good work ethic and dad's handshake was his word. Despite a few incidents, Eldon was always ready to operate the loader (his kitten) for the daily chores. Janet passed away in 1990. Eldon married Sharlene (Johnson) Vanosdall, aka "Sunshine" on September 24, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. They met on the polka dance floor and continued dancing for two years. The couple resided on the farm where they continued to farm until Eldon's passing. They enjoyed being together whether fixing fence, checking cattle, working the land or just sitting with each other. Eldon was a member of Lodge #436. He loved to polka dance; attending demolition derbies; visiting with family and friends and watching his family grow.
