Nurse, Former Resident, Dies In Des Moines Miss Margaret Schmitz, 56, a registered nurse and former Hawarden resident, died Tuesday of last week in the home- of her brother, Louis B Schmitz, in Des Moines after a long illness. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at the Larkin Funeral home in Sioux City. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a. m. Friday at the Cathedral of Epiphany in Sioux City with Rt. Rev. Msgrl W. B. Bauer officiating. Burial was in the family plot in St. Mary's (sic) cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa. Miss Schmitz, one of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. John Schmitz, came to Hawarden as a girl and attended St. Mary's grade and high school. Her father operated a meat market and also a laundry in Hawarden. She was also a graduate of St. Vincent's school of nursing in Sioux City ,after which she engaged in her profession in Sioux City, Hawarden and other places. At one time she was employed in the Hawarden hospital while it was privately owned by Dr. F. F. Null and Dr. Raymond Gregory. A number of years ago Miss Schmitz was taken with a heart ailment and was compelled to give up her work as a nurse in 1943. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Iowa State Nurses association. She is survived by one brother, Louis B. Schmitz of Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews.
