SGT US Army World War II Claude Bedford "Buck" Atkins was born October 24, 1915 in Shannon County, Missouri to William Atkins and Cynthia Jane (LaRue) Atkins. He departed this life on January 13, 1995, at 11:25 am, in Birch View Nursing Center in Birch Tree, MO, at 79 years of age. Claude married Gladys Irene Goforth and they lived their lives together for over forty five years. To this union one daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Norman; one daughter, Mary Lou Cooley; two brothers, Chester and Marshall; and one sister, Madge Burns. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of the home at Winona, MO; one daughter, Beverly Hollis of Winona; three step-daughters, Barbara Stearns of Joplin, MO; Patsy Sigler of St. Louis, MO; and Wanda Wakefield of Winona, MO; five sisters, Alma Spaulding of Cape Girardeau, MO; Mattie Van Winkle of Winona, MO; Marie Nash of Eminence, MO; Wave Dailey of Winona, MO; and June Patterson of Birch Tree, MO; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, January 16, 1995, at 1 pm in Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, MO with Rev. Glen Hampton officating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Winona, under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.
