Bio

Robert was born July 7, 1892 northeast of Shelby. As a small boy he lived in David City and Bellwood. In 1909 he moved with his family to a farm southeast of Shelby. He married Nellie Blanche Rosenberry in 1913 (daughter of John A and Clara Shelmadine Rosenberry, born December 31, 1894). They lived on farms near Shelby and Robert worked in Osceola in the Triple A Farm Program in the 1930's. In 1946 Robert and Nellie moved to Shelby and Robert managed the Dawson Grain Elevator. Later Robert and his brother, Harold, operated their own elevator until it was destroyed by fire in 1948. He then worked at Shelby Oil Company until his retirement. Bob loved sports and played many games of baseball on the Shelby team. At one time he and his four brothers played on the same team. After he quit playing, he umpired many games. Bob and Nellie were members of the Methodist Church. Nellie died in 1955. Bob married Mary Coufal in 1961 and they resided in Shelby.
