Daniel Edward Wentrcek, 86, a native of Williamson County, passed away in New Mexico on Monday, January 19, 2009. Dan was visiting New Mexico for the winter but had resided in Washington for the past four years. Dan was born in Granger, Texas on December 11, 1922 to the late Joseph Frank and Victoria Blazek Wentrcek. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Florence Reid Wentrcek in September of 2000, one sister and one brother. Dan served his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nevada and USS Chester from 1941 to 1945. He was serving aboard the USS Nevada when it was attacked in Pearl Harbor and severely damaged; he was one of the few survivors of that attack. Dan and Florence married in San Antonio on December 8, 1945. Dan retired in 1986 from the University of North Texas where he was a Paint Shop Foreman. Dan was a member of D. A. V., Pearl Harbor Survivors Chapters in Corpus Christi, Texas and Vancouver, Washington; Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #413 AF & AM and OSO Masonic Lodge AF & AM. Dan leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Victoria Overpeck and husband Daniel of Bosque, NM, Deborah Stewart and husband Richard Olin, Jr. of Vancouver, WA; brother, Joe Wentrcek of Georgetown; 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey Stewart, Heather Stewart Wheeler, Collin Stewart, Carly Stewart Price, Emily Stewart Cohoon, Blake Stewart, Austin Overpeck, Katy Overpeck Goldsmith; 15 great grandchildren, Zachary Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Benjamin Stewart, Samuel Stewart, Kaylee Wheeler, Toby Wheeler, Darren Wheeler, Jenna Wheeler, Tamri Stewart, Kenna Stewart, Mason Price, Samantha Price, Madison Price, Paidan Stewart, and Jonas Overpeck; along with many other loving family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown. A service celebrating Dan's life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
