Gerald and Nancy started their life together at the Home Ranch at the foot of Elk Mountain. The couple had three sons: Steve, John "Casey" and Burt. They lived on several of the family ranches in the Elk Mountain and Hanna area, raising their sons on the Basin Ranch during the summer and moving to Headquarters, near Hanna, in the winter to be closer to school. During his lifetime Jerry was active in his community and profession, serving on the Elk Mountain and Hanna/Elk Mountain School Boards for over 20 years.
