Malissa was the youngest daughter of Martin Cooper and Elizabeth Davenport. Malissa's married first husband Jenry Purnell Horton Jan. 18, 1838 San Augustine County, Texas. Mother of Henry Pernell Horton Sr. Married second husband John L. Hamilton March 9, 1841 in San Augustine County, Texas. Married only a short time before John died from injuries sustained when his gun accidently discharged. Malissa Cooper Horton married Francis H. Dixon October 12, 1841 in San Augustine, Texas. She was a widow with a small son Henry Horton. Malissa and Francis had the following children: Elizabeth "Bettie", Dewitt C., James P., Alfred, Francis H. Jr., Fannie, and Julia. Francis H. Dixon was a widow at the time of his death in 1879.
