Bio

Adelia Hilger-Olson, 91, of Norfolk, Nebraska, (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Josephs Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska, with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 AM at the church. Adelia was born December 11, 1921, in Platte County, NE to John and Anna (Schulte) Blohm. She attended Lutheran Grade School and Kramer High School in Columbus. After graduation, she was employed at the Court House in David City, NE. She also worked as a secretary in the Navy Dept. in Washington, DC. When she returned to Nebraska, she worked at Dale Electronics and Becton-Dickinson in Columbus for 29 years. On November 29, 1941, while in Washington, DC, Adelia married Joseph H. Hilger of David City, NE. After the war ended, they returned to Nebraska and bought her parent's farm north of Columbus. Joe died July 20, 1984. Adelia and Earnest Olson were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1986. Earnest died in 1989. Adelia remained in Columbus until 2002 and then moved to the Meadows Retirement Village in Norfolk, NE Adelia enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and also to Hawaii, New Zealand and Germany. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, playing cards, reading, quilting, crocheting, baking, and doing volunteer work. While in Columbus, she was an active member of the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church. Adelia is survived by: Son - Bob (Cookie) Hilger of Columbus, NE Daughter - Kathy (Roger) Brestel, Norfolk, NE Son - Ted (Lori) Hilger of Lincoln, NE Son-in-law - Roger Kapels, of Creston, NE Stepchildren: Marjorie (Francis) Beister, Columbus, NE; David (Norma) Olson, Council Bluffs, IA; Les (Sally) Olson, TX; and stepdaughter-in-law Ruth Olson, Bellevue, NE Grandchildren: Michael Hilger, Omaha, NE; Heidi (Jeff) Mullinex; Holly (Brett) Thompson, Columbus, NE; Haley (Ryan) Duncan, Shelby, NE; Jodi Whelan, Altamonte Springs, FL; Ryan (Rosalia) Watchorn, Grand Island, NE; Kerry (Matt McQuillan), Omaha, NE; Clint Kapels, Creston, NE; Kaycee (Will) Gardner, Jacksonville, FL; Calvin (Melissa) Kapels, Olathe, KS; Angie (Wynn) Lafferty, Lincoln, NE; Joe (Maria) Hilger, Columbus, NE; Kyle Hilger, Lincoln, NE Step grandchildren: Tim Beister, Janis Beister, Paul Olson, Jr., Christopher, Robert and Karl Olson, Toya McEnearney and Audrey Godfrey Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and 3 great step grandchildren Adelia was preceded in death by: Parents - John and Anna Blohm Husbands - Joseph Hilger and Earnest Olson Sons - Dennis and Michael Hilger Daughter - Linda (Hilger) Kapels Sisters - Dorothy Engler, Elsie Samland, Hilda Robbins, and Alice Rupp Brothers - George, Gerald and Ralph Blohm Step son - Paul Olson Step daughter - Sara Olson
