James E. "Jim" Rose, 73, of Grand Island, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Cheyenne, Wyo. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. James E. Rose was born Feb. 26, 1940, in rural Greeley County, the son of Carl and Clara (Swanson) Rose. He grew up and received his education in Greeley. James entered the United States Air Force Jan. 19, 1962, and was honorably discharged May 30, 1962. He was a Master Electrician and helped wire Amchitka Island. He resided in various communities, including Greeley, Cheyenne, Wyo., Hawaii, California and Anchorage, Alaska, where he lived since 1969. He was a 50-year-plus member of IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). His greatest enjoyment came with being with his family and friends who often came to visit him while he was living in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyo., which was another opportunity for him to be with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cribbage. Survivors include two daughters; three brothers, four sisters; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Rose; and sister, Janet Tiff.
