Bio
Kenneth Dell Gilchrest died on Thursday, June 27, 2013 after a long illness. Please join us for a celebration of his life at 11:00 am Saturday, June 29th in the Southern Hills Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 3666 Buffalo Gap Rd. A brief graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Hwy 277 at 10:00 am immediately preceding the celebration service. Arrangements were handled by Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. Kenneth was born July 21, 1928 in Swenson, Stonewall County, Texas. He spent his school days in Aspermont, Texas and graduated from Monahans High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant from 1948-1952, in the 42nd Armored Artillery Division. He subsequently graduated from Ranger Junior College. Kenneth worked for Baird's Bakery for 37 years and was production manager for several years before retirement. Kenneth was a faithful member of Southern Hills Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for several years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Valeta, daughters Vikki Barbee and husband Eddie, Marisa Massey and husband Greg, and sons, Mark Gilchrest and wife Elsa, Tony Gilchrest and wife Sherrie. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Gilchrest. Kenneth asked that we mention his great love and appreciation for all of his extended family members and his church family.
