Yvette Anne Smolik, 72, of Burwell, Nebraska died June 22, 2013 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 10:30 Friday, June 28, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Fr. Mark Maresh, Fr. Hubert Spanel and Fr. Mike McDermott will officiate. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements. Yvette was born November 12, 1940 in Inglewood, California to Iven and Anne (Sullivan) May. As an infant she moved with her parents to Hickman, Nebraska. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1958. She then went on to St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing graduating in 1961. Yvette married Robert George "Bob" Smolik on October 21, 1961 in Cheney, Nebraska. They lived in Burwell where Bob farmed and ranched. Yvette worked at the Burwell Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Yvette enjoyed gardening and reading romance books. Yvette is survived by her dad, Iven May of Lincoln, Nebraska. Eight children, Marilyn Roach of Lincoln, Nebraska, Janet Chalupa of Grand Island, Nebraska, Linda and Darryl Aldrich of Hastings, Nebraska, Laura and Dan Pokorny of Ord, Nebraska, Diane Smolik of Lincoln, Nebraska, Thomas Smolik and fiancée Amanda Stuart of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dennis and McKenna Smolik of Lincoln, Nebraska and Gregory and Heather Smolik of Minden, Nebraska. Twenty-four grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters: Loretta Danczak of Burwell, Larry and Sandy May of Lincoln, Robert May and special friend Donna of California, Keith and Pat May of Lincoln, Pat and Jack Scott of Lincoln, Ed and Mary May of Lincoln, Joe May of Lincoln and special friend Rhonda Ficke, Ken and Irene May of Lincoln and Annette and Robert Miller of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Yvette was preceded in death by her husband Bob, Mother Anne May, two grandsons, Jason Pokorny, and Zachary Smolik, a granddaughter Ariel Smolik and two son-in-laws, Ricky Roach and Don Chalupa.
