**Posted on the Plainsman - September 9, 2011 ************************************************ Richard S. Grann, 87, of rural Carpenter, died at his home on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM, at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter. Shirley Scotter will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Richard's grandchildren. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery north of Carpenter. Richard was born May 11, 1924 in Carpenter, SD to Elmer and Gertrude Grann. He graduated Doland High School in 1942. After graduation, he worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. for a short time. Dick studied music in Minneapolis, MN then returned to the family farm near Carpenter to farm with his father. Dick was known for his beautiful tenor voice. He frequently sang at weddings and funerals in the Carpenter area. He was also active in the Carpenter Church where he sang in the choir for many years. On May 22, 1949, Richard married Carol Board. They made their home on Richard's family farm north of Carpenter where they shared 58 wonderful years together and raised three sons. Richard loved visiting with company and neighbors. He was a board member of the Clark County Conservation District for a number of years. Dick is survived by three sons Mike (Kathie) Grann, Wallace, SD; Rick (Julie) Grann, Loveland, CO; and Jeff (Crystal) Grann, Carpenter, SD; one brother, Cliff (Eileen) Grann of Seattle, WA; two sisters-in-law Annie Grann, Cheyenne, WY; Ruby Vetos of Kimmer, WY; five grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Grann, Colman, SD; Jon (Andrea) Grann, Sioux Falls, SD; Christopher Grann, Minneapolis, MN; Teresa (Jeff) Wahlert, Sioux Falls, SD; Jessica (Brent) Kramer, Sioux Falls, SD; nine great-grandchildren: Devon Wahlert, Alivia Grann, Dawson Wahlert, Nevaeh Grann, Layla Grann, McKinley Kramer, Hannah Grann, Jonah Grann and Isabella Grann. He had many nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters Hazel (Art) Boyd and Elma Grann; one brother Irving Grann. Arne-Weerts Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
