**************************************** From Contributor #47466150 (diaNEB): Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Monday, 26 May 1919 "Three Young People of Crete Drown in Blue River" Crete, Nebr., May 26 - Royal McDowell, 17, of Bertrand, Nebr., a student of Doane College here and Frances Walklin and Evelyn Marek, students in the Crete High School were drowned in the Blue River five miles north of here last night when the canoe in which they were riding overturned. The accident occurred when McDowell and Fred Brautilisch, a Crete High school student, attempted to exchange seats. Brautilisch escaped. None of the others knew how to swim. ****************************************
