Melvin age 93 died on June 21, 2015 at his home in Custer, South Dakota. Mel was born December 8, 1919 in Cornlea Nebraska to Catherine and Andrew Hiermeier. He was one of 12 children. He attended school in Pringle and Custer after the family moved to South Dakota. He began his working career when he was 17 in the CCC He then moved to Butte, Montana and worked in the Copper mines. In 1942, he married Ruby Blessing and together they had three sons. Rodney (Butch), Melvin K. (Rick) and Ron. During World War II he was a welder on the Victory Ships in Vancouver and five great great grand children. Vancouver, WA. On May 23 1964 he married his soul mate Linda Belmont. This was the beginning of Hiermeier Trucking. They enjoyed supporting the community of Custer for several decades through sponsorship of sports teams, church and annual events. Survivors include his wife of 49 years< Linda of Custer, sons Butch of Custer and Rick and Ron of Edgemont South Dakota. nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and five great great grand children, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents five brothers, four sisters, two grandchildren and one great great grandson.
