Bio

Lawrence "Larry" Palu, 73, of Grand Island died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center with family at his side. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Joseph will officiate. Mr. Palu was cremated according to his wishes. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family. Mr. Palu was born April 2, 1939, in Loup City to Edward and Bertha (Kosmicki) Palu. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Margaret of Grand Island; a daughter, Connie Palu of McCook; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Suzanne Palu, and Mike and Tamiee Palu, all of Grand Island; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Maggie Palu of Bloomfield, and Kathy Palu of Rockport, Mo. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, Matthew Palu, Joshua, Brady, Jaden and Mackenzie Palu, Taylor and Ember Williby, and Klayten and Rylan Palu. He grew up in Loup City and graduated from Loup City High School in 1957. Larry entered the United States Marine Corps on May 31, 1957, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1963. Larry was united in marriage to Margaret Bydalek on March 17, 1962, at Ashton. The couple made their home in Omaha, where he was a dispatcher for a concrete company. In 1974, they moved to Ashton and Larry worked for Monfort, Inc. for 25 years. The couple has lived in Grand Island since 1985. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the National Rifle Association. Over the years Larry has enjoyed collecting guns and flashlights. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Palu was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jeanette Koperski and two brothers, Ted and John Palu.
