DeSaussure and Job Johnson chancellors of the said State Humbly complaining your orators George French, James Coker and Mary his wife, William French, James French, Elijah French, Washington French, Zorabella French, Wiley Reeves and Anna his wife, Ursula French, Nancy French and Asa French the complainants respectfully shew unto your Honors that John P. French late of the District of Greenville in the State of South Carolina on or about [blank] day of [blank] in the year of our Lord one thousand and [blank] departed this life intestate seized and possessed at the time of his death of a valuable real Estate containing upward of five hundred acres of land composed of two tracts adjoining each other situate in the District of Greenville aforesaid on Saluda River and leaving the complainants and Jonathan French, Jesse French, Larkin Davis and Elizabeth his wife, and Joel Lee French his legal representatives and heirs at law, heirs surviving and entitled to distributive shares of the said real estate which the said John P French died seized and possessed that said real estate should be partitioned between and among the heirs at law and legal representatives of said John P French.to order a writ of partition and that your writ of subpoena may be directed to the said Jonathan French, Jesse French, Larkin Davis and Elizabeth his wife and Joel Lee French the defendants commanding them to answer to all the matters and things herein alleged and particularly whether the said John P. French did not seized and possessed depart this life intestate and whether the parties names are not his heirs at law and that honors will appoint a Guardian as litum for Joel Lee, Ursula, Nancy and Asa French who are under the age of twenty one that the said Guardian may answer this bill for said minors. He was born South Carolina in 1820. In 1852 he came to Austin, Texas removing to the place where he died in 1874. Besides and aged wife he leaves three children; Chas French, who lived with him, and Mesdames John McVea and J. S. Fritzsimmons. Tuesday his remains were laid to rest in the Thompsonville cemetery, a number from Waelder attending the funeral. He had been a farmer all his life from which pursuit he derived much pleasure and a reasonable measure of prosperity; liberal in thought and charitable in deed; belonged to no sect or clan; was religiously scrupulous in all his dealings with his fellowman and lived close to the golden rule. The news joins a large circle of acquaintance in extending condolence to the bereaved family and relatives.
