Bio

In 1865, Stephen, his wife Elizabeth, and their six surviving children left Indiana for Greene County, Iowa. He had planned the trip for a long time, as he brought a large chest filled with maple sugar with him. The family made their own linen and cloth for clothing, and raised their own sheep and grew their own flax. Stephen and Elizabeth raised four sons(one died in 1845) and three daughters. Stephen died in 1873 in Iowa from wounds he received in a hunting accident.
